Editor & Publisher (E&P) is a monthly journal covering the North American newspaper industry. It is based in New York City. E&P calls itself "America's Oldest Journal Covering the Newspaper Industry" and describes itself on its website as "the authoritative journal covering all aspects of the North American newspaper industry, including business, newsroom, advertising, circulation, marketing, technology, online and syndicates."

E&P's website, now one of the most popular and influential in the media business^{[citation needed]}, is updated daily with breaking news. The E&P editor since 2002 is Greg Mitchell, who also writes a print and Web column. Online editor is Jay Defoore. In recent years the magazine has won numerous national awards, including several for its stories on coverage of the Iraq war.

The journal dates back to 1884, when The Journalist, a weekly, was founded. E&P was founded 17 years later and merged with The Journalist in 1907. E&P later acquired Newspaperdom, a trade journal for the newspaper industry that started in 1892. In 1927, E&P merged with another trade paper, The Fourth Estate."^[1]

E&P was purchased in 1999 by BPI Communications, a division of VNU Business Media. Since 1999 it is owned by VNU, which also publishes Billboard, Adweek, Mediaweek, The Hollywood Reporter, Photo District News, and many other business-to-business magazines.^[1]

While generally maintaining journalistic objectivity when covering the newspaper industry, E&P has been considered^[who?] to represent the viewpoints and biases of newspaper owners, from private owners of single newspapers to public corporations which own large chains of newspapers.^{[citation needed]}

E&P's classified ads section has been considered^[who?] the first place to go when looking for a newspaper job.
