Cadena COPE

COPE (Cadena de Ondas Populares de España, roughly translated as People's Radiowaves of Spain Network) is a private, commercial, Spanish radio network owned by a series of institutions within the Spanish Catholic Church. COPE was admitted as an active member of the European Broadcasting Union in 1998.

It is the home of La Mañana, its most popular broadcast, a mostly politics-related, morning talk show hosted by the controversial Federico Jiménez Losantos.

Other programs:

  • "La Linterna", (translated means "the flashlight") directed by the César Vidal Manzanares. It is mainly a politcs-related program.
  • "La Tarde", (translated means "the afternoon") presented by Cristina López Schlichting.
  • "El Tirachinas", (translated means "the sling") sports-related.

Its editorial guideline is the defence of Catholic values; however it has come to be mostly known by the conservative stances of its most relevant conductors such as Jiménez Losantos or Cesar Vidal, none of these being practicising Catholics.
